The demand for disposable wired headphones has been unleashed, and greenness has become a new challenge for the industry
Νέα λεπτομέρεια

At present, when TWS wireless headphones dominate the consumer market, the niche market segment for disposable wired headphones, which are designed for public use and short-term usage, is experiencing continuous growth. Core purchasing scenarios include aviation, cultural and tourism exhibition halls, education and examinations, and medical care and wellness. Overseas bulk orders are continuously increasing, and the environmental pressure brought by disposable products is forcing the industry to explore material and model upgrades.

Disposable wired headphones mostly adopt 3.5mm analog audio interfaces. Some new models have evolved into Type-C digital versions. The products feature independent sealed packaging, low cost, plug-and-play functionality, and no need for charging or pairing. They primarily address the hygiene risks of shared audio devices among multiple users and are not intended for individual daily consumption. They are classified as scenario-specific audio accessories.

From the perspective of downstream demand, the aviation sector remains the largest purchaser. In-flight entertainment systems on passenger aircraft are distributing disposable earphones to passengers. Museums, scenic spots, and guide devices for tour guidance have purchased large quantities of single-channel disposable headphones. Standardized hearing tests, language laboratories, hospital waiting areas, and large-scale exhibition events all use these products extensively to avoid the risks of repeated disinfection of equipment, which involve labor costs and cross-contact hazards.

Industry practitioners explain that in the past, the market blindly pursued the lowest price, and products commonly used ordinary PVC cables and foam earplugs. After disposal, they were difficult to recycle and process. With the improvement of global sustainable development requirements, two significant changes have emerged in the market: On one hand, the concept of "limited-use headphones" has emerged, using recycled plastic materials and supporting limited repeated use, balancing hygiene needs and waste pressure; on the other hand, some airlines and institutions have begun to implement incentive schemes for bringing their own headphones, reducing the issuance of disposable headphones and reducing material consumption.

Interface iteration is another major challenge in the industry. A large number of existing public devices still retain 3.5mm round holes, but the new generation of terminals gradually shift to Type-C interfaces. Factories need to simultaneously produce two specifications to adapt to both new and old devices. Some customers also add logo screen printing and customized packaging requirements. The proportion of ODM customized orders continues to increase.
